The Ultimate Scrub Sizing Guide

How to measure yourself at home, in under 10 minutes

Finding the right scrub size is essential for comfort, confidence, and performance during long shifts. Whether you're a medical student attending clinical postings, a resident doctor working overnight duties, or a healthcare professional constantly on the move, well-fitting scrubs can make a significant difference to your day.

When shopping online, you don't have the advantage of trying on garments before purchasing. That's why taking accurate body measurements is the best way to ensure your Supermedic scrubs fit exactly as intended.

This guide walks you through every measurement you need before ordering your next scrub set, lab coat, jacket, or underscrub.

Before You Start

What You'll Need

A flexible measuring tape

A mirror or someone to assist you

A phone or notepad to record measurements

Part One

Measuring for Scrub Tops, Jackets & Lab Coats

Chest

Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms and across your shoulder blades. Keep it level and snug—not tight. You should be able to slide one finger beneath it.

Shoulder Width

Measure from the outer edge of one shoulder to the other across your upper back. Ask someone to help—this one's tricky to measure alone.

Garment Length

Start from the base of your neck where the collar sits, and measure straight down to your preferred hem. Most tops finish around the mid-hip.

Part Two

Measuring for Scrub Bottoms

Waist

Measure around your natural waistline—usually the narrowest part of your torso just above the navel. Keep the tape comfortably fitted, not pulled tight.

Hip

Stand with feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.

Inseam

Measure from the top of your inner thigh down to your ankle. If you own a pair that fits well, measuring the garment itself is often most accurate.

Measuring for Lab Coats

Lab coats are worn over your scrub set, so use the same chest, shoulder, and length measurements as scrub jackets.

Between two sizes? Choose the larger one for comfortable layering.

Measuring for Underscrubs

Underscrubs fit close to the body—measure your actual chest and waist without adding extra allowance.

A well-fitted underscrub gives warmth, flexibility, and unrestricted movement all shift.

Understanding the Supermedic Size Chart

Once you've recorded your measurements, compare them directly with the official Supermedic Size Guide instead of relying on your usual clothing size. Sizing can vary significantly between brands, and medical apparel is designed differently from casual clothing.

Supermedic garments are tailored to support movement during long hospital shifts, ward rounds, surgeries, and clinical duties.

Between sizes, prefer relaxed fit?
Choose the larger size for easier movement.

Prefer a fitted silhouette?
Choose the smaller size for a closer fit.

Our premium KineticFlex™ 4-Way Stretch fabric also offers additional flexibility without compromising comfort.

  • If you already own a scrub set that fits perfectly, measure the garment and compare those dimensions with our size chart.
  • Select scrub tops according to your chest measurement.
  • Select scrub bottoms according to your waist measurement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I order the same size as my regular clothing?

Not necessarily. Medical scrubs are designed differently from everyday clothing. Always refer to your body measurements and compare them with the Supermedic Size Guide before placing an order.

What if my measurements fall between two sizes?

Choose the larger size for a relaxed, comfortable fit, or the smaller size for a closer fit. Thanks to Supermedic's KineticFlex™ 4-Way Stretch fabric, both options provide excellent freedom of movement.

Can I measure myself without assistance?

Yes. Chest, waist, hip, and inseam measurements can usually be taken independently. Shoulder measurements, however, are generally more accurate when taken by another person.

Do lab coats use the same measurements as scrub jackets?

Yes. Lab coats follow the same chest, shoulder, and length measurements but are designed with additional room for comfortable layering over scrubs.
